Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffins

Once upon a time , I had a day off & my mother had a pint of blueberries.

This pair and also just the overwhelming consensus that:

.... resulted in my search for the perfect blueberry muffin recipe.

Growing up in Boston--you would always hear older people refer to

"the blueberry muffins Jordan M-aaah-sh used to have" . ( a.k.a Jordan MaRsh)

It was a Boston based department store which was eventually bought out by Macy's.

Of course when I googled "Jordan Marsh Blueberry Muffin" about 1000 results came back , so I started to go through and weed out the faux recipes & wannabe's.

The winner was :

Loved this one because it also came with a great history lesson.

So thank you historically accurate blogger.
This was the result :

I call this " Baking in Action"

They were so moist and fluffy. For real.

So after the test kitchen opened it's doors I was able to get a quote from a fairly accurate tester who allegedly witnessed the original Jordan Marsh gems first hand ---my father.

His reply-- " The real muffins were a lot bigger".

Straight from the mouth of the King of Constructive Criticism himself.

I wouldn't want to duplicate something exactly--it needs my little personal touch.

Alas, they were still dam tasty & I'm pretty proud !

On a side note I realize I would enjoy having a good-bye phrase to closeout all my posts.

Any suggestions ?

I'll have to think about it.

Til' next time

  1. Ate them as a kid (I'm a born Bostonian); I've made them for years. Make your Dad truly happy by using these technique tips:

    1. Use a pan that has wider-than-normal surfaces between the holes
    2. Never use a non-stick muffin pan. I repeat: NEVER.
    3. Only use every other "hole" in the muffin pan. This allows for heat circulation that creates a better crunch to the tops.
    4. Chill the blueberries in the freezer for 15 minutes before use. Take them out when you are READY to use them.
    5. Lightly flour the blue berries just before FOLDING them GENTLY into the batter.
    6. Top each muffin with 1/2 tsp. sugar "plus a pinch" before baking.
